FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Here are the answers to some of the most frequent questions we get about our paramotor tours but if you still have questions or doubts please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d be happy to help .

IS PARAMOTORING SAFE?

Paramotoring is most likely the safest form of private aviation ever invented. An easy way to explain where paramotoring is on the “safety scale,” as coined by the USPPA*, “it’s safer than driving a motorcycle but not as safe as driving a car.” One main reason why paramotoring is such a safe sport is that most problems occur before takeoff and therefore prevent the paramotor from even getting too far off the ground. If a problem occurs in the air, for example if there’s an engine failure, the paramotor is still attached to a huge parachute so we can still guide and glide comfortably down to the ground to find a suitable landing place.

Paramotoring is an adventure sport and has some acceptable risks. At ParaMex we do not take any chances and fly only when there are good weather conditions and with certified equipment. The weather can at times be unpredictable and our pilots have the right to postpone or cancel a flight if they think it’s not safe for the customer.

All pilots and instructors are certified through United States Powered Paragliding Association (USPPA)

At Baja Paragliding Experience we only use top quality brands!

Blackhawk Paramotors . BGD Paragliders . Vittorazi Motors . Dudek Paragliders .

HOW HIGH DO I FLY?

Typically we fly up to max around 1000 ft. / 300 m. depending on weather conditions.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMITATION?

People of any age are welcome. However you must be able to fit into the hareness safely and meet the weight requirements. We recommend from the age of 14 and up. If you are younger than 18 you need to get written permission from your parents.

ARE THERE ANY WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS?

Yes, for safety reasons we cannot fly with people weighing less than 85 pounds/40 kilos or more than 220 pounds/100 kilos.

DO I NEED A RESERVATION?

We can only guarantee your flight if you have a reservation but we do accept walk in guests when we have openings. If you can, please contact us with as much advance notice as possible. This way we can hold open the best time slot for you. We need a $50 USD per person deposit (usually made through our PayPal account or via credit/debit card). This way we’re ready to fly when you arrive.

HOW DO I DRESS?

As we are flying in a desert climate it’s typically warm, so wear shorts/skirt and a t-shirt. You cannot fly barefooted! So please wear footwear that does not easily come off. For example, slip-on sandals and flip-flops are not allowed. If it’s a cooler day, we recommend bringing a thin long sleeve shirt. Sunblock and sunglasses are also advised.

CAN I BRING MY CAMERA/VIDEO RECORDER?

Unfortunately it’s not safe to bring your own camera or any kind of loose objects with you on the flight. We will also ask you to empty your hands and pockets before the flight to avoid any loose items traveling with you. If anything is dropped during a flight it will most likely get sucked into the propeller, which could create a hazard for both you and the pilot or items could land on people below, potentially causing injury. Therefore we ask you to please abide by this rule. Items can be left with friends/family or with the ground crew.

I’D LIKE TO HAVE VIDEO AND PICTURES OF MY FLIGHT

During your flight there is a fixed camera on the paramotor helmet of the pilot. Another GoPro camera will be provided once we are in the air, so you can take best “selfies” ever while in the air, Both cameras will record every second of your flight in FULL 1080 HD and constantly shoot high-resolution photos.

WHAT IF I FEEL TOO ANXIOUS UP THERE AND WANT TO COME DOWN?

Just tell the pilot over the intercom and we’ll land you back down on the ground as soon as we can. No problem.

WHAT IF I WEAR GLASSES?

No problem. You can wear your glasses under the helmet.

WILL I GET MOTION SICKNESS?

If you don’t normally suffer from motion sickness then it’s unlikely that paramotoring will make you nauseous. If you’re prone to motion sickness don’t worry too much because Powermotoring is a stable type of flying and you shouldn’t feel much movement. But it does help to show up before your flight well rested and if possible, try not to eat anything a few hours before. You’re much less likely to get/feel sick on an empty stomach.

WHAT IF THE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE NOT FLYABLE?

We can only fly in daylight hours and we’re limited to light winds, that is a maximum of up to 13-15mph winds with no or light gusts. We cannot fly in rain nor when certain cloud formations form. We check various weather sites daily to see if we can fly that day. If the weather should look non-flyable, we will inform you as soon as we can to re-scheduled. If you’re scheduled to fly in the afternoon, you can check in with us or with your vendor at the hotel in the morning. The weather is at times unpredictable, so if you should be at our location and we are not able to fly, we will reschedule or refund you.

WHAT IF THE ENGINE FAILS DURING MY FLIGHT?

No problem. The engine is only used to go up and maintain altitude. At any time, we can shut off the motor and land safely. We are flying with an open parachute that can glide up to 7 feet forward with only one foot down (7 to 1 glide ratio) so in case of engine failure we simply find a suitable place to glide in for a landing and our ground crew will come and pick us up.
